Certified Managing General Agency (CMGA) is the premier designation awarded by the American Association of Managing General Agents (AAMGA) Education Foundation. Tryton Insurance Group, LLC is the standard lines division, and was separately branded in 2005. It is a managing general agency placing personal and commercial business, including workers comp, with standard admitted insurers. Vice Chairman, Myron Steves & Co.

Myron F. Steves Jr., known as Buddy, oversees bail bond operations, manages MS Privacy and leads the healthcare liability practice. Buddy joined Myron Steves in 1973 after several years working in the healthcare industry and receiving his CPCU designation in 1972. This experience allowed him to establish Myron Steves’ healthcare liability practice in 1975, which wrote some of the first liability programs excess of self-insured retentions. Working with large reinsurers and policy issuing (fronting) companies, he was able to craft unique solutions to the risk financing challenges of health systems in tough legal venues. In 2005, Buddy assumed oversight of Financial Casualty & Surety Insurance Company (FCS), which he has grown into the largest bail bond surety in the country. In recent years, Buddy has broadened his focus to new product development. He founded and directly manages MS Privacy Solutions, the company’s identity protection and identity recovery business, and other cyber insurance products.

Prior to1973, Buddy worked as the assistant to the Executive Director of the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, was a Huebner Foundation Fellow in Business and Applied Economics (Risk and Insurance) and completed all the work on his PhD except for his dissertation. His master’s thesis, in the area of medical malpractice, became the basis of articles published in prominent law and insurance journals. He has been heavily involved in tort reform efforts since 1986 and currently serves on the board of the Texas Alliance for Patient Access (TAPA). Buddy is also a founder and principal in Actuarial Research Group (1977) and currently holds board positions in the following organizations: Children at Risk, University of Fondwa-USA, Houston Swing Dance Society, Texas Association of Business.

Buddy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of St. Thomas and a Master of Arts degree in Business and Applied Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a Chartered Property/Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and a General Property & Casualty license.

Director, Specialty Programs & Personal Lines, Myron Steves

Ron’s knowledge and expertise from over fifty years in the insurance industry are an asset to the Myron Steves management team and the strategic vision of the company. He oversees the personal lines team and claims, directly manages specialty programs and advises IT. He is the primary contact for the company from the London market in both personal and commercial lines and manages a key relationship with them. Ron joined Myron Steves in 1989 as Director of Property Underwriting. At the time there was no personal lines department, so he took charge of the opportunity. He a established personal lines contract for Myron Steves by working with the London market, and grew the department into what it is today. Additionally, Ron advises IT to help solve problems related to Myron Steves goal of increased automation of software programs.

Ron’s career began with the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) in the property rating division in 1961. He then went on to work for Fireman’s Fund as a safety engineer performing property and liability inspections, acting as a liaison to the state. He then spent a few years working for insurance agencies before starting his own insurance business as an independent agent. He ran his business for ten years before joining Myron Steves. Ron has served on property committees for the Independent Agents of Houston, the Independent Agents of Texas and the Professional Insurance Agents. As an instructor of commercial property courses he has trained thousands of agents throughout the state from 1969 until recently.

Ron has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). He holds a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation and is a Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA). He holds General Liability, Risk Manager and County Mutual licenses.

Vice Chairman, Financial Casualty & Surety

As Chairman of Myron Steves, Fred holds chief executive officer responsibilities. He continually seeks improved responsiveness to agents; accomplished through maintaining motivated underwriters, astute managers, continuing education, ever-increasing automation, efficient processes and the best insurers in the business. He joined in 1970 and worked with his dad, brother and sister to build the business into a responsive and recognized Managing General Agency/Wholesaler.

Prior to joining Myron Steves, Fred spent two years practicing law with Boswell & O’Toole in Houston, and three and half years as a Judge Advocate and Captain in the United States Marine Corps. He is a past president and former Director of the Texas Surplus Lines Association, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Surplus Lines Stamping Office of Texas, and a past president and former director of the American Association of Managing General Agents (AAMGA). He is a trustee and past Chairman of the AAMGA Education Foundation and a former member of its executive committee. He has held the position of Chancellor of the AAMGA University, the principal educational activity of the AAMGA Education Foundation. He is a long distance runner and 25-year member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Fred has a law degree and a business degree from The University of Texas, in Austin. He is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a Certified Insurance Wholesaler (CIW).

Teresa Steves Skinner, known as Terry, provides direction to the Educators Liability department of Myron Steves in an advisory capacity, helping shape the growth of the program and continually adapting to the evolving needs of the market. Terry joined in 1988 and assumed responsibility for Educators Liability in 1990, then known as the Educators Program. Terry has maintained many longstanding relationships with agents and associations that were first cultivated by her father, Myron F. Steves, Sr. She has grown the program from serving only classroom teachers within educator associations to giving Myron Steves the ability to cover a multitude of educational professionals, such as librarians, school business officials, administrators, and educators in private practice. The department has recently expanded to meet the needs of other educational entities, including afterschool programs, scholastic testing centers and tutoring practices.

Terry’s expertise comes from an understanding of educators’ professional liability from the educator side. Prior to joining Myron Steves, she was employed for four years by the University of Houston Department of Curriculum and Instruction while pursuing a Doctorate in Education. Prior to this she spent twelve years in elementary education teaching kindergarten through third grade.

Terry received a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from University of Houston and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas. She has a Chartered Property/Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and holds General Property & Casualty and Surplus Lines licenses.

As Executive VP of Sales and Agent Relations, Hector is focused on developing and maintaining excellent relationships with our agents. Responsiveness to customers and customer satisfaction are of highest concern at Myron Steves. Hector is responsible for the implementation of our sales training program that creates a responsive, knowledgeable, solution-driven production team and ensures a consistent customer experience every time. Additionally, he leads a team of business development representatives that handle sponsorships, attend trade shows, and educate agents on all available products and services from Myron Steves and Tryton. Hector is also responsible for evaluating and determining appointment of new agents.

Hector joined Myron Steves after eighteen years of broad experience in the industry. Prior commercial lines experience includes, general liability, property, auto, and workers’ compensation. Beginning his career with Traveler’s, he was an underwriter for property and casualty middle markets; and then went on to be a broker in excess and surplus lines for Elton George & Company, an MGA. He expanded his experience by joining the retail side managing a bank owned insurance agency and growing the business through agency acquisitions.

Hector has a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at San Antonio and is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC). Hector also holds General Property & Casualty, Surplus Lines and MGA licenses.

Harry joined Myron Steves in February 2015 as Chief Technology Officer. He drives the company’s overall technology strategy and spearheads the increasing automation of our IT processes. He ensures Myron Steves’ leadership position in insurance software products to optimize user experience for our clients and increase internal efficiency. Additionally, Harry oversees marketing and design, and is guiding a more digitally focused strategy to continually and effectively serve our customers.

Harry has over twenty-five years’ experience designing and architecting successful commercial software products, leading teams and understanding insurance business processes. He has a longstanding relationship with Myron Steves from developing software utilized by the company prior to joining full time. Harry founded the company and developed the software FinancePro, considered a top product in the premium finance industry, used by Myron Steves, which he successfully sold to Vertafore. He then partnered with Myron Steves to develop DirectBillPro, an online billing system for MGAs, which we still use and own today. After that he joined Vertafore as VP of Carrier & MGA markets, where he led the development of software product PolicyIssuance, used by several leading insurance companies and general agents. He then took on the role of Vice President, Mobile Strategy and Innovation, where he was responsible for new product development, user experience and documentation.

Harry first got involved with the Internet in the early stages of espn.com. He led the group that developed the software and publishing tools used to automate espn.com, superbowl.com, nfl.com and abcnews.com.

Harry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from University of California, San Diego and two pending software patents.

Chief Financial Officer, Financial Casualty & Surety, Inc

As Chief Financial Officer James provides strategic leadership for all financial and accounting operations across all Myron Steves companies. He is dedicated to streamlining processes and continually improving internal efficiency in everything from financial reporting and analysis to budget planning. Since joining Myron Steves in 2002, James has been instrumental in seeking out and implementing financial software that increases automation and improves reporting and forecasting capabilities. Additionally, James is proactive in working with legislators on passing bills beneficial to the insurance industry and Myron Steves. He represents the company in interactions with auditors, banks, Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) and in handling other financial matters.

James started his career at KPMG as an audit assistant, specializing in insurance, and was promoted through roles of increasing responsibility, ending as an audit manager. He spent two years working in London, England responsible for auditing large international insurance groups. He then joined Highlands Insurance Group as Controller and was eventually promoted to Vice President of Finance. At Highlands Insurance Group, among other accomplishments, James facilitated the financial and accounting aspects of the acquisition of five insurance companies at the same time. He helped successfully merge all financial and accounting related operations into Highlands existing financial system within three months.

James holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Lamar University and he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

As Executive Director Claudia leads the Myron Steves Personal Lines team, determines underwriting guidelines and rating recommendations for the London market and ensures all processes are followed for domestic markets. Claudia maintains key relationships with Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s to continually adapt Myron Steves personal lines offerings to the needs of the market and help the company provide unique personal lines products. Currently, she is helping advance Myron Steves goal of increased automation in software programs by contributing her personal lines expertise in writing workflows. She strives to make it easier for agents to do business with Myron Steves by increasing the efficiency and productivity of her underwriting team and improving digital tools. She has helped implement effective HR programs and provides any needed resources for the benefit of the team so they can deliver top notch service to our clients.

Claudia joined Myron Steves in 1997 as an underwriter assistant and was quickly promoted to personal lines underwriter. She was promoted up through personal lines and become Director of Personal Lines in 2008. In 2015 Claudia was promoted to Executive Director and earned a position on the executive committee. Claudia began her insurance career in 1992 at an independent insurance agency handling personal lines accounts. During her time there she obtained her Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) license.

Claudia holds a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation, a Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) license and she has General Property & Casualty and Surplus Lines licenses.
